Strokes

Strokes can be very dangerous, but not all strokes are fatal which means a person can still survive a stroke. Strokes are caused when there is not enough blood supply to the brain or by a bleeding inside the brain. Strokes can be fatal depending of which part of the brain it damages. A stroke can damage a person’s ability to talk, vision, and mobility just to mention some of the harms it could cause. There are several diseases or illness that could be the causes or help develop a stroke, for example; diabetes, high cholesterol, or hypertension, etc. Smoking is strongly related to people who have a risk of having a stroke. Some of the symptoms of a stroke include weakness, numbness, headaches, loss of balance, trouble speaking, inability of movement, etc. Obesity, especially abdominal fat is related to the causes of strokes; therefore, exercise is much recommended to get a better quality and healthier life.
My Grandmother passed away three years ago because she couldn't recovered from a stroke. She was a very healthy person until one day she suffered a stroke that left her in bed for almost two years suffering, because she was never able to talk, or move again after been so healthy.

  1. It surprised me when you mentioned that obesity (specifically abdominal fat) can put a person at risk for stroke. I looked into it, and it turns out that physicians are commonly using waist circumference instead of a person's BMI to determine whether they are more at risk for stroke and ischemia. Granted, this is not the only factor we can relate to stroke, but it's an interesting topic to look in to.
Abdominal fat is the hardest area of the body to tone and get rid of in both males and females. To rid yourself of it would mean changing your diet completely so the body ceases to store extra fat. This would mean that people at risk for stroke (and stroke patients) would need to completely change their diet. I mean, doesn't their life depend on it?

  2. the part that surprised me the most was the cooling of the brain!! that was probably the last thing i would try on someone who just had a stroke. i would think the drugs might help more on the contrary its cooling the brain that has shown more of an advantage for people who have suffered from strokes.
i for one had no idea that high cholesterol could cause a stroke!! i have high cholesterol!! no one told me this!!
